Electrical Safety Tips

Downed Lines & Emergencies

Remember, all downed lines are dangerous — they carry an electric current that can cause serious or even fatal injuries. If you encounter a fallen wire, keep yourself and others far away from it or anything it may be touching, and call 911 and Black Diamond Power Company immediately!

Home Electrical Safety Tips

If the power goes out, remember to unplug electronics and appliances to protect them when the power is restored. Never operate lanterns, heaters, generators, fuel-fired stoves, or burn charcoal without proper ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and fires.

Scams & Fraud

We want to keep you safe from financial scams. Especially financial scams that involve criminals using our name or others to threaten or compel you to give them money.

Posing as our employees, they demand immediate payment through a pre-paid debit card or ask for personal identity information under the false threat of service disconnection.

What Will Scammers Say?

They will possibly claim to be American Electric Power (AEP). We will never claim to be AEP, nor will we make phone calls like this!

  • They threaten to shut off power unless an immediate payment is made.
  • They tell you that you need a new meter, but a payment must be made before the new meter is installed.
  • They demand that a deposit be paid immediately.

What Should You Do?

Hang up the phone and call us immediately! We can tell you if we’ve contacted you about your bill. Don’t give the caller a prepaid card, a wire transfer, or any other form of payment. Ignore suspicious requests for personal information such as bank account numbers, usernames and passwords, credit card numbers, or Social Security numbers.

How Do I Know It’s Really You Contacting Me?

Call us immediately! We can tell you if we’ve tried to call you. We can also tell you what your account balance is and when your next payment is due. We will have also sent you a Form-14 and a 24-hour Notice previously.
